Zweiter Artikel für die Schülerzeitungen

David Jakob, 08V

Terve,

On pakko sanoa että puhun jo ihan hyvin suomea. Mutta minä kirjoitan nyt englanniksi, koska minä haluan olla varma että jokainen ymmärtää mitä minä sanon.

A well-known symbol of Finland is the bear. For many people it’s also beer, but that’s another story. Everyone knows that here are bears somewhere living in the forests, walking around being a king of the woods, but the main question which comes up, is: When in a lifetime it happens to you that you are actually able to see this creature in front of your eyes, except in a Zoo?

Everyone knows it, but no one sees. With this metaphor I try to express how important it is to be open-minded for new experiences, for example by discovering a new country. When I came to Finland, I saw it, I saw a country like every other, maybe a bit colder but in overall totally similar. I didn’t know yet what qualities, surprises and experiences I would be about to gain and discover in a so special way.

What do you know really about the rest of Europe, Asia, Africa and America? Clichés, Stories and plump Pictures, but not in any way the inner source and heart of those continents and their countries. How about then applying for an exchange year, a social year or civil service abroad? Abroad discovering and falling in love with the heart of a new country.

Of course and without a doubt it is hard to leave family and friends for a longer time, but you’ll get it paid off by being honestly able to be proud on yourself that you managed this challenge. For me personally, it seems now much more painful having to leave Finland in this summer.

I found amazing friends and fell in love with all qualities Finland gives me. Especially the real and honest character of the people, the landscapes with lakes and forests, Mökki and Sauna and the whole atmosphere spreading out of this soul.
Take this chance. It’s so much waiting outside your home.
Straight Talk: A second home.

Kiitos kaikesta Suomi!

Nähdään,

Dave eli David Jakob
